How Long Does It Take to Recover After EVO ICL™ Surgery?

If you want clear vision without glasses or contacts but are not a candidate for LASIK, the EVO ICL™ might be the solution you’ve been waiting for. This advanced implantable lens provides sharp, high-quality vision with a short recovery period and long-term stability.

At Visionmax Eye Centre, EVO ICL™ is one of the most trusted options for people seeking surgical vision correction without removing corneal tissue.

What is the EVO ICL™ Implantable Collamer® Lens?

The EVO ICL™ is a biocompatible lens implanted inside the eye, behind the iris and in front of the natural lens. It corrects vision by focusing light properly onto the retina, much like a contact lens, but from within the eye.

Unlike LASIK, EVO ICL™ does not reshape the cornea or remove any tissue. This makes EVO ICL™ an ideal choice for people with moderate to high myopia, thin corneas, or dry eye symptoms that make laser surgery less suitable.

Is EVO ICL™ Surgery Better Than LASIK?

Both procedures are highly effective, but they serve different needs. LASIK uses lasers to reshape the cornea, making it a good choice for people with mild to moderate prescriptions and healthy corneal thickness. EVO ICL™ does not involve corneal removal, which preserves more of the natural eye structure and avoids flap-related complications.

Benefits of EVO ICL™ over LASIK include:

  • No removal of corneal tissue
  • Less risk of dry eye after surgery
  • Suitable for higher prescriptions
  • Reversible if desired

For those who are not ideal LASIK candidates, EVO ICL™ offers a safe, stable, and long-lasting alternative.

How Long Does It Take to Recover After EVO ICL™ Surgery?

Recovery from EVO ICL™ is generally fast and straightforward. Most people experience noticeably sharper vision within 24 hours of surgery. Some may even notice improvements the same day. The procedure itself takes about 20 to 30 minutes per eye and is usually done under local anesthesia with light sedation.

Here is a general recovery timeline:

  • Day 1: Blurry vision and mild light sensitivity are common, but many people already notice visual improvement. You will need someone to drive you home.
  • Day 2–3: Most daily activities can be resumed, including desk work or light walking. You may still be asked to avoid bending over, rubbing your eyes, or lifting heavy objects.
  • Week 1: Vision continues to improve. Eye drops are used to prevent inflammation and infection. Contact sports, swimming, and strenuous activities should still be avoided.
  • Week 2 and beyond: Most people return to full activity. Your surgeon will confirm healing progress at your follow-up visits.

Vision typically stabilizes within a few weeks, although some people may notice minor fluctuations during the healing period.

How Long Does an Implantable Lens Last?

The EVO ICL™ is designed to remain in your eye indefinitely. It is made of Collamer®, a biocompatible material that is well-tolerated by the body and does not degrade over time. Unlike contact lenses, which must be cleaned and replaced regularly, the ICL requires no maintenance once implanted and can last a lifetime.

Am I a Good Candidate for EVO ICL™ Surgery?

You may be a strong candidate for EVO ICL™ if you:

  • Are between 21 and 45 years old
  • Have stable vision with moderate to high nearsightedness (myopia)
  • Have thin corneas or dry eyes that rule out LASIK
  • Have no significant eye diseases such as glaucoma or uncontrolled cataracts
  • Are not currently pregnant or breastfeeding

A thorough eye exam at Visionmax Eye Centre will determine if your eye structure and vision needs make you a good fit for this procedure.

  • Great experience from start to end for my SMILE and CLR procedures! Excellent customer service and I felt cared for and confident I had chosen the best place for my surgery and am so happy with the results! Highly recommend!
