What are My Vision Correction Options?

When considering our vision correction procedures, you will notice that they fall into a few primary categories:

Laser Eye Surgery

LASIK, SMILE, and PRK are all types of laser eye surgery. They all work by using a laser to change the shape of your cornea to help your eyes focus light. All three provide excellent vision correction with a good chance for 20/20 vision.

This procedure is sometimes known as an implantable contact lens. It uses a lens made of Collamer®, a biocompatible collagen material. A small incision is used to place the EVO ICL™ over your natural lens, focusing light for clearer vision.

LASIK vs. EVO ICL™ vs. PRK vs. SMILE Eye Surgery

While you might recognize the name “LASIK” first, all four of these procedures have benefits for the right candidate.

What is LASIK?

This form of laser eye surgery uses the laser to create a circular flap in the surface layer of the cornea. This flap is lifted aside to perform the reshaping and then replaced. One of the biggest advantages of LASIK is that it can treat a wide range of prescriptions. It also has minimal recovery time

One disadvantage of LASIK is that it is not ideal for those with abnormal or thin corneas, problems with dry eye, or who engage in contact sports. These people will benefit from a procedure that causes less disruption of your cornea.

What is SMILE?

This type of laser eye surgery uses the laser to create a small disc of corneal tissue. This disc is then removed through a tiny incision. Because it causes much less corneal disruption, it is often a better option for those with dry eyes or a preference for contact sports.

A disadvantage of SMILE eye surgery for some people is that it does not treat farsightedness. It can be used to treat astigmatism and nearsightedness, but farsighted people will need a different procedure. If you are not a good candidate for LASIK or SMILE, you have other options.

What is PRK?

Instead of making an incision in the corneal epithelium, PRK removes this layer completely. As a result, the entire epithelium regrows intact. This aspect of the procedure makes PRK an option for those who want laser eye surgery but are not good LASIK candidates

One disadvantage of PRK is the longer downtime required. You can expect rapid improvements over the first few weeks, with full healing after a few months. Although this recovery period is longer than some other options, it can help you achieve your vision goals.

What is EVO ICL™?

With EVO ICL™, no corneal tissue is removed. The only change made to the eye itself is a small incision to place the ICL™ over the natural lens. Along with being safe and effective for almost anyone, it offers almost immediate visual improvements. Although laser eye surgery is more widely known, EVO ICL™ is an excellent option for most people.

Dr.Teliani and her team were absolutely amazing from start to finish. Thank you again for this life-changing procedure.
