PRESBYOND® Laser Blended Vision

PRESBYOND® Laser Blended Vision

PRESBYOND® Laser Blended Vision from ZEISS is an optimized laser method for age-related loss of accommodation or presbyopia. It is a more sophisticated and less invasive method for those between 40-60 years of age seeking to regain their reading ability.

When we observe objects at various distances, the light from nearby objects refracts differently than from far-off ones. The natural lens inside the eye must change shape to bend the light and focus it on the retina; this process is called accommodation. As the eye ages, the lenses thicken and gradually become less efficient at bending the light into focus on the retina. This age-associated farsightedness is known as presbyopia. It starts around the age of 40 and may worsen with time.

Bifocals and progressive lenses have traditionally been used to correct presbyopia. Monovision treatment of presbyopia corrects each eye for a different distance; this leads to an overall improvement in the vision capabilities of both eyes.

PRESBYOND® Laser Blended Vision offers a clear advantage over conventional monovision methods by providing customized treatment profiles to clear sight at all distances: near, intermediate, and at a distance. These advantages have made PRESBYOND® Laser Blended Vision a clear treatment choice for the fast-growing demographic of presbyopic patients.

Presbyond Edmonton and Northern Alberta

PRESBYOND® offers the opportunity of freedom from glasses by combining the simplicity and accuracy of corneal refractive surgery/Lasik with the benefits of increased visual acuity at all distances.

PRESBYOND® extends the scope of customized laser treatment beyond the limits of conventional monovision laser methods as the Laser Blended Vision technique is based on correcting the naturally occurring spherical aberrations of each eye. It is a physiological solution and a true binocular method for treating presbyopic patients, as depth perception is reserved.

Unlike monovision methods that utilize standard ablation profiles, PRESBYOND® Laser Blended Vision incorporates preoperative wavefront data to fine-tune the depth of field for each eye. The functional age of the patient’s eye is also factored in. Thereby, a personalized nomogram that records your individual eye parameters is created per eye for optimized target refraction. The monovision component can be pre-adjusted for the patient’s tolerance level. Also, different optical zone sizes can be selected to account for the patient’s pupil size.

PRESBYOND® follows the same workflow as the established LASIK procedures to reshape the cornea to provide clear near, far and intermediate vision with an excimer laser. This allows people with presbyopia to regain good vision at all distances.

Custom

PRESBYOND® incorporates preoperative wavefront data to fine-tune the depth of focus of each eye individually, creating a unique blended vision correction profile for vision correction. Individualized ablations go beyond conventional monovision as a truly customized approach for treating presbyopic patients.

All Distance

By customizing each treatment individually, PRESBYOND® Laser Blended Vision provides excellent visual sharpness for near and distant vision. Unlike conventional monovision methods, PRESBYOND® Laser Blended Vision also offers a good intermediate binocular vision in the Blend Zone. According to clinical studies, functional stereoacuity/depth-perception (ability to detect differences in distance) is maintained, and there is virtually no loss of contrast sensitivity. Also, side effects such as multiple images in one eye are almost eliminated, as PRESBYOND® does not create a multifocal cornea.

Immediate

What also clearly sets PRESBYOND® Laser Blended Vision apart from other laser techniques is the immediate positive impact on patients’ vision. Within the first day, patients can read again!

Appropriate for most patients

A key advantage of PRESBYOND® is that it is proven to be tolerated by more patients than conventional monovision. It is effective for treating up to 97% of all presbyopia-related forms of impairment compared to only 59-67% for conventional monovision. Even presbyopic patients with emmetropia and astigmatism can be treated. It has the potential to achieve a far greater success rate than any comparable treatment.

Wide indication range

PRESBYOND® Laser Blended Vision is a proven and effective method for treating refractive errors from -12.00 D to +6.5 D, including emmetropia and astigmatism up to 5.00 D cylinder.

You may feel sensitive to light for a few days after laser eye surgery, and your eyes may still be dry — use sunglasses and eye drops as necessary.

After the surgery, you can read without your glasses right away! However, it takes time for the brain to readjust to your blended vision, a process called neuro-adaptation. During this period, your brain will rewire to this new way in which your eyes are refocusing. This period of readjustment varies widely from patient to patient but typically lasts from a few weeks to a few months.

This does not mean that your regular activities have to come to a standstill. You can continue most routine activities within a few days, but avoid strenuous exercise, swimming, or contact sports for a month. There will be regular checkups with your surgeon during this period.

Visionmax has significantly expanded its LASIK repertoire with PRESBYOND® Laser Blended Vision. We offer a decisive advantage over LASIK practices specializing only in monovision treatment methods.
