Dr. Daniel Senekal

Dr. Daniel Senekal, President and Medical Director of Visionmax Eye Centre, is a well-respected member of the International Refractive community and Clinical Lecturer at the University of Alberta. Dr. Senekal utilizes his expertise and 18 years of experience to improve the quality of training of Ophthalmology Residents in Canada and in South Africa.

Dr. Senekal is one of very few Ophthalmologists who dedicates all of his time and energy to the advancement of refractive eye surgery. Upon becoming a Fellow of the Colleges of Surgeons of South Africa, he completed a Masters degree in Ophthalmology with Distinction at the University of the Free State, South Africa. ​To enhance his skills and in-depth knowledge of the Science involved in Laser Refractive surgery, he completed an advanced Refractive and Cataract surgery post-graduate Diploma through the University of Ulster, Northern Ireland, with Distinction.​

Dr. Senekal continuously monitors and analyzes his Refractive Laser surgery results to optimize the visual outcomes of his patients, with emphasis on reduction of higher-order aberrations, resulting in better daytime and night-time quality of vision. He is the only Surgeon in Alberta to perform Laser Vision Correction with both the MEL90 Excimer Laser and the Visumax Femtosecond Laser from Carl Zeiss Meditec to achieve safe, precise, and superior visual results. The developer of his Technology was awarded the Nobel Price for Physics in 2017.
