What is the Recovery Time From LASIK?

If you have considered laser vision correction, you may have wondered how much work or other activities you might have to miss. Fortunately, LASIK lets you return to most regular activities within only a day or two. LASIK fits into the busiest schedules, making it accessible for almost anyone.

What is LASIK?

LASIK is a form of laser vision correction. It improves your vision by adjusting the shape of the cornea. This clear structure affects the angle of light entering your eye. By reshaping the cornea, LASIK causes light to focus correctly for clearer vision

How Does LASIK Work?

Your eye surgeon begins your LASIK procedure using the Visumax Femtosecond laser. Using rapid pulses of energy, this laser creates a flap in the cornea’s outer layer. After lifting the flap, your eye surgeon will use the MEL90 Excimer laser to remove microscopically thin layers of the cornea. This advanced laser allows safe, precise corneal shaping. After the procedure, the flap is returned to its position and will begin to heal within hours.

What is the Recovery Time From LASIK?

The edges of the flap will close quickly. Most people can drive and return to work within 3 to 4 days. You may experience irritation for a few days. Dr. Senekal will provide eye drops to assist with this until it resolves. Your vision will continue to improve and stabilize over the following weeks and months. You will be provided with a detailed plan to guide you through the healing process.

Benefits of LASIK

LASIK gives millions of people greater freedom and sharper vision. In the hands of an experienced surgeon, it is highly safe and effective.

Rapid Recovery

We will recommend that you take three or four days to recover before returning to work and other activities.

Significant Improvement

Most patients feel that LASIK has significantly improved their vision and are happy that they had the procedure. 90.91% of patients see 20/20 or better post LASIK and 97.73% of patients heal within target.

Long-Term Costs

Your LASIK procedure is an investment in your vision that may be paid back over time. You may not need corrective lenses anymore or as often, which can reduce your eye care expenses.
