How Does PRESBYOND® Treat Presbyopia?

If you are over the age of 40 and have noticed that you have trouble reading or making out the details of close-up objects, you are likely experiencing the age-related vision change known as presbyopia. This condition affects almost everyone as they get older, but advanced treatment methods like PRESBYOND® let you enjoy clear vision again.

What is Presbyopia?

The light that enters your eye passes through a clear, flexible disc called the lens. This lens can change shape to help focus light, but over time, it becomes more rigid and less able to adjust. This stiffness makes your lens less able to focus light when reading or other close-up tasks. Presbyopia is the reason so many older adults use reading glasses, but you have options for treatment.

How Does PRESBYOND® Treat Presbyopia?

PRESBYOND® is a type of laser eye surgery used to correct presbyopia. It corrects each eye differently using a laser. This advanced method provides binocular vision that lets you see clearly across a range of distances, including reading distance. As a result, you can enjoy better up-close vision and see clearly at intermediate and long distances.

PRESBYOND® works by using a laser to reshape your corneas. These clear structures also help focus light, so changing their shape can adjust the angle of light entering your eyes. By correcting each eye differently, this treatment gives you clearer up-close vision and can reduce your need for reading glasses.

Am I a Good Candidate for PRESBYOND®?

If you are a healthy adult with presbyopia, you are most likely a good candidate for PRESBYOND®. Candidates should have reasonable expectations and understand the risks and benefits of the procedure. Unlike some other presbyopia treatments, PRESBYOND® is effective for people with astigmatism. Those with thin corneas or certain medical conditions may not be good candidates.

Is There Any Downtime After PRESBYOND®?

PRESBYOND® requires minimal downtime. You may experience minor irritation for a few days after the procedure, but eye drops will help control any discomfort. You will notice improved vision within a day or two, and most people can return to work within a few days

Avoid strenuous activities, lifting heavy objects, swimming, or contact sports for a month after PRESBYOND®. Because this treatment changes the way your eyes focus, your brain needs time to adjust completely. A process called neuro-adaptation takes place over the following weeks or months.

What Results Will I See After PRESBYOND®?

PRESBYOND® has been demonstrated to improve presbyopia for 97% of people who receive the treatment. This procedure does more than correct your problems with near vision. It corrects your vision at a range of distances, even if you have astigmatism. After PRESBYOND®, you can expect better overall vision and much less difficulty with reading or similar activities.
