What Is EVO ICL™ Surgery?

When you think of vision correction, you might think of laser eye surgery. However, you have other options with their own benefits. EVO ICL™ is an implantable lens that overlies your natural one to correct refractive errors like farsightedness, nearsightedness, and astigmatism.

What is EVO ICL™ Surgery?

An implantable Collamer® lens (ICL) is designed to be placed into your eye behind the iris (the colored part of the eye) and over the lens. The lens, a disc-shaped structure that focuses light, is one of two natural structures in your eye that help achieve clear vision. The other structure is the cornea, which is reshaped in laser eye surgery.

EVO ICL™ acts as a third light-focusing lens, resulting in light that focuses clearly on the retina at the back of the eye. Its biocompatible collagen-based material is designed to stay in the eye for the rest of your life, although it can be removed safely. The surgery uses a small incision, and this advanced lens requires no additional drainage.

How Does EVO ICL™ Surgery Work?

Your eye surgeon will numb your eyes before your procedure. An incision less than 3mm long is made, and the EVO ICL™ is inserted and moved into place. This lens is designed to anchor itself safely in place, and you will not see or feel it. The incision does not require sutures. The procedure takes ten to fifteen minutes per eye, and you will not feel any discomfort.

What is Recovery Like After EVO ICL™ Surgery?

EVO ICL™ surgery does not remove any corneal tissue or cause other damage, so recovery is generally quick. Most people can drive and return to work within two days. You may experience minor discomfort and sensitivity to light. We recommend sunglasses when you go outside, avoiding swimming, and not rubbing your eyes. Use your eye drops as directed for fast, smooth healing.

What Results Will I See With EVO ICL™?

You may notice results almost immediately after EVO ICL™ surgery. The implant begins correcting your vision as soon as it is placed. It can stay in place for a lifetime. However, your eyes will still undergo age-related changes over time so you may need corrective lenses or additional procedures in the future. Your implanted lenses will continue to do their job, but your natural lens will change with age.

Am I a Good Candidate for EVO ICL™?

EVO ICL™ surgery is safe and effective for many people, including those who are not good candidates for cornea-reshaping procedures like LASIK. Candidates for this procedure should have reasonable expectations and healthy eyes. People with thin or abnormal corneas may still be candidates for EVO ICL™. You may also be a candidate if you had cataract surgery but are not satisfied with the amount of correction you received.

The whole team here is so professional and mindful of their patients. Clean, top-tier establishment. Would recommend to anyone who is tired of relying on glasses!
