What is EVO ICL™?
EVO ICL™ uses an Implantable Collamer Lens made of a material containing collagen. Unlike refractive lens exchange, Visian® ICL™ does not remove your natural lens. The ICL rests under the iris (the colored part of the eye) and over the lens to change the angle of incoming light. You cannot see or feel this implant and will not know you have one except for the visual improvements you enjoy. Dr. Senekal uses the new generation STAAR EVO ICL™, which has its own drainage system and does not require creating one.
How Long Does EVO ICL™ Last?
EVO ICL™ provides long-lasting results. You will never need to remove your implants. However, you will still develop age-related changes to the eye over time. For example, your natural lenses develop presbyopia, an age-related stiffening that causes blurry near vision. These lenses will eventually develop cataracts, causing cloudiness that affects your sight.
How Does EVO ICL™ Work?
EVO ICL™ lenses are implanted during a minimally invasive procedure. Dr. Senekal uses a small opening to insert the implant into position. Most people only need numbing drops for this ten to fifteen-minute procedure. Since all your eye’s natural structures remain in place, placing the implant causes little to no disruption, making healing quick and easy.

What is Recovery Like After EVO ICL™?
Most people can see well enough to drive within one to two days of their procedure. You may feel minor eye irritation, but using your eye drops as instructed will improve this issue. You should avoid swimming and exposing your eyes to airborne dirt or dust for at least a week after treatment.
Am I a Good Candidate for EVO ICL™?
Almost anyone makes a good candidate for EVO ICL™. While it provides vision correction for any prescription, EVO ICL™ works especially well for those too strong for LASIK or SMILE to address. You may also be a good candidate if you have problems with your cornea. Unlike laser eye surgery, EVO ICL™ does not disrupt the cornea and will not affect its stability.
