What is the Best Dry Eye Treatment?

Dry, sensitive, itchy eyes can make it difficult to enjoy your daily activities. If you struggle with dry eye symptoms and are ready to try something new, treatment with LipiFlow® offers the long-lasting relief you want. This painless, non-invasive treatment addresses the underlying cause of most chronic dry eye symptoms to reduce or eliminate your need for eye drops.

What Causes Dry Eye?

Many people occasionally experience symptoms such as burning, itching, and sensitivity. These can be caused by allergies, exposure to dust or other airborne particles, or a dry environment. If your eyes always feel dry, you may have Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD).

The Meibomian glands along the edges of your eyelids make a lipid that forms an important part of your tears. When these glands become blocked, your tears evaporate too quickly, leaving your eyes dry and unprotected.

What is the Best Dry Eye Treatment?

Since the majority of people with dry eye have MGD, treating this condition is the most effective way to restore healthy, natural tears. LipiFlow® gently unblocks your Meibomian glands using a combination of warmth and massage-like pressure that extracts the blockages. With its single-use applicators and computer-controlled precision, it safely restores your normal tear function.

Is There Any Downtime After LipiFlow® Dry Eye Treatment?

Your LipiFlow® treatment takes ten to twenty minutes, and you can return to your normal activities immediately. There is no downtime required and no limits on your activities. The ability to fit a session into your lunch break and get back to work makes LipiFlow® convenient and easy.

Am I a Candidate for LipiFlow® Dry Eye Treatment?

During your consultation, your dry eye specialist will examine your eyes and determine whether you have MGD. If you do, you are most likely a good candidate for LipiFlow®. It is gentle and safe for almost everyone. If you have other contributing factors, we will develop a treatment plan to provide you with relief. You should not have LipiFlow® if you have an infection or skin irritation around the eyes.

What Results Will I See After Dry Eye Treatment?

Your Meibomian glands will be unblocked after your LipiFlow® treatment, but they will take time to resume their normal function. This timeline varies widely, but most people will see results within four to six weeks. Most people only need one treatment to restore normal gland function.

If you have MGD, your glands may become blocked again. Most people need occasional maintenance treatments to keep their eyes feeling comfortable. With these quick follow-up visits, you may be able to reduce or stop your use of eye drops.
