What Results Should I Expect After LipiFlow®?

Dry eye symptoms can affect your everyday life in many ways. Red, irritated, sensitive eyes can be frustrating and uncomfortable. Artificial tears or over-the-counter eye drops may provide limited relief. For a longer-lasting, more effective solution, your Visionmax team recommends LipiFlow® dry eye treatment.

What is LipiFlow® Dry Eye Treatment?

Dry eyes are a common problem, but chronic symptoms can make life more difficult. Dry eye is caused by problems with your tears. Tears have several layers that help them function correctly, including a lipid layer that keeps them from evaporating too fast. This lipid layer is produced by glands along the edges of your eyelids called Meibomian glands. LipiFlow® restores the function of these glands to improve dry eye symptoms.

How Does LipiFlow® Work?

When your Meibomian glands become blocked, a condition called Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD), your tears evaporate from your eyes instead of protecting them. LipiFlow® works by using gentle pressure and warmth to unblock the glands, letting them resume their normal function. As a result, your tears work better and protect your eyes from dryness and irritation.

What Results Should I Expect After LipiFlow®?

How soon you see LipiFlow® results depends on several factors, including how severely your glands are blocked and how long they take to become active again. Most people will start to see benefits within four to six weeks. One treatment restores normal tear function for the majority of people.

You may need a repeat treatment after a few months to keep your Meibomian glands working well. Others may enjoy their results for much longer, depending on how often their glands become blocked again. Occasional maintenance treatments allow many people to limit or even stop their use of eye drops or other treatments.

People who do not respond to LipiFlow® can benefit from a range of other treatment options. Your Visionmax team will work with you to find solutions for your dry eye symptoms regardless of their underlying cause. A customized treatment plan may include LipiFlow® in combination with other treatments, such as eye drops.
